I got in over my head many years ago. I contacted a credit consolidation company and worked out a plan. I paid a small fee each month and they consolidated everything. They only got the interest rate lowered on one single card. Problem is, The payments weren't much lower that what I was already trying to pay. Not only that, but they were late paying the creditors once and it showed up on my reports! I wound up filing bankruptcy. Here it is many years later and I have rebuilt my credit. In my humble opinion, it's better to try to educate yourself about what you can do yourself. Look to your local community for credit counseling. It should be free, and these people are so very helpful. They are part of the community and they want to see you succeed. Contact the department of human resources for your city and ask them if they have a class on credit.
